At Hampstead Dental, our dentists are certified Invisalign® providers and our clinic has been recognized by Invisalign® with Diamond Provider status. Invisalign® uses clear, removable aligners as an alternative to traditional braces for orthodontic treatment. Treatment suitability and expected outcomes vary for each person and can only be determined after a comprehensive consultation with a registered provider.
Invisalign® is a clear aligner system developed in the USA that combines orthodontic principles with digital technology to help correct certain types of malocclusion. The aligners are designed to be worn for 20–22 hours per day and are removed only for eating, drinking, or oral hygiene. They work by gradually moving teeth into new positions over the course of treatment.
Invisalign® may be an option for adults and teenagers seeking an alternative to traditional braces. Suitability depends on individual clinical needs, which can range from mild to more complex orthodontic cases. A consultation with a registered provider is required to determine if this treatment is appropriate for you.

Treatment begins with a consultation with a registered provider who is certified to provide Invisalign®. A recent comprehensive dental examination is required to identify any existing dental conditions and to assess whether Invisalign® treatment is suitable. At Hampstead Dental, we also offer a digital simulation tool that provides an example of how teeth may appear after treatment. This is intended for illustrative purposes only and does not guarantee treatment outcomes.
If you are assessed as suitable for Invisalign®, your dentist will take a detailed 3D scan and clinical photographs. This information is used to develop a customised treatment plan and to manufacture your series of clear aligners.
Your first set of Invisalign® aligners is usually available within 2–4 weeks after the scan. Your dentist will check that the aligners fit appropriately and provide instructions for wear. In most cases, aligners are worn for 20–22 hours per day and changed every 1–2 weeks as directed. Follow-up appointments are generally scheduled every 6–8 weeks to monitor progress and make any adjustments as required.
At the end of the active treatment phase, the planned tooth movements will have been completed. Outcomes vary between individuals, and further adjustments may be needed depending on your clinical situation.
After active treatment, retainers are generally required to help maintain the position of your teeth. Invisalign® offers Vivera™ retainers, or your dentist may recommend alternative options. Retainers may need to be replaced over time and involve an additional fee. Your dentist will advise on the most appropriate retention approach for your needs.

Here are some advantages of Invisalign and how they can work wonders for you.
Invisalign® clear aligners are thin, transparent plastic trays designed to fit over your teeth. They are an alternative to traditional metal braces and do not use brackets or wires.
Invisalign® clear aligners are made from a smooth, custom-moulded plastic designed to fit over your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, they do not use brackets or wires. Aligners should be worn for 20–22 hours per day and are only removed for eating, drinking (except water), brushing, or flossing.
The aligners are removable, which may be convenient during meals, oral hygiene, or certain activities such as sports. However, consistent wear is important for treatment effectiveness, and your dentist will provide guidance tailored to your individual needs.
Your treatment is digitally planned with 3D oral scanning technology, which helps map the movement of your teeth. The number of aligners, treatment time, and expected outcomes will vary depending on your case, and only a registered dental practitioner can assess your suitability.
Follow-up appointments are generally scheduled every 6–8 weeks to monitor progress and provide new aligners. Regular reviews help ensure your treatment is progressing as intended.
It is recommended that you remove your Invisalign aligner trays while brushing or flossing your teeth. This helps you efficiently clean your teeth as well as the trays with warm water. Invisalign allows for easy brushing and flossing as there is no wires or brackets getting in the way of cleaning your teeth.
Aligners should be cleaned daily with lukewarm water, and it is recommended that you brush and floss your teeth after meals before reinserting them. Because they are transparent, aligners may be less visible than traditional braces in social or professional settings.

Yes, you can eat all foods. There are no restrictions to what you can or cannot eat. Just remember that your aligners are clear and so you might want to avoid them staining or starting to look yellow. We recommended that you only drink water when you have your aligners in, and remove your aligners when eating or drinking any other food.
You can remove your aligners when you are eating or brushing your teeth. We recommended that you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day to ensure optimal results.
Yes, definitely.
It is best to clean your aligners with a separate toothbrush and rinse them in lukewarm water. Avoid hot water as you don’t want to distort your aligner. Also try and use a different toothbrush to the one you use to brush your teeth, this will prevent bacterial cross contamination.
If your aligners break for some reason, check how far into wearing them you are. If you only have 1-2 days until you swap into new aligners, you could first try on the next size up and see if they fit early. However, if you are still concerned, call and book an appointment with your dentist to assess the situation.
The length of treatment is dependent on how simple or complex your case is. Simple cases are finished within 3- 6 months and the complex causes will be 12-18 months long. The length of treatment may also differ depending on how often you wear your Invisalign aligners. You need to wear them at least 20-22 hours a day to finish on your proposed end date.
You should change your aligners on average every one to two weeks. Your Invisalign dentist will let you know how long to wear your aligners as it does depend on your specific treatment plan. This will help correct your teeth position at a manageable time frame and give you the best results.
Wearing your aligners for at least 20-22 hours will help move your teeth faster which will help accelerate your treatment timeframe. There are also special Invisalign chewies you can bite down on for around 10 minutes a day. This helps the aligners fit tightly on your teeth and will increase the movement. This can also increase the chance you will finish your treatment early or on time.
Invisalign attachments are small tooth coloured dots of filling material that are glued to your teeth. These attachments serve as little anchors for the aligners to attach to and help make your treatment more effective. Not everyone needs attachments and your Invisalign dentist will tell you if any phase of your treatment will need attachments.
No, Invisalign is not a painful treatment. However, the initial process of moving the teeth can give you discomfort for a couple of days when you are wearing a new aligner. It might feel similar to someone who gets braces on and feels the pressure of the teeth moving. Some other people will experience tenderness in their teeth or jaw. The aligners are trying to move your teeth into an ideal position.
